Mobile Etiquette!

Any human invention is a boon provided it is used in the correct proportion. Inventions have made life simpler and have provided more luxury to ‘Man’kind. But then it is the extensive usage of them that transforms them into a bane. And mobile phone is one of them. A couple of weeks back, I was stuck in traffic and I saw two girls, who seemed friends, walking on the platform. They moved talking - but not to each other. They were over the phone with someone else.

I watched them for about 5 minutes, and they really didn’t bother about the other person’s presence. They kept talking and talking and from their face it was quite obvious that the call wasn’t that important. I found them really funny to have ignored each other presence – a real cruelty to Human form I guess.

The previous episode was acceptable to some extent, but not this one. I saw other two girls, one was chatting her glory over the phone and her friend was just following her like a dog. And this time too the call didn’t look serious. Why can’t you just tell the other person to hang up or to get in touch you later as you are busy with someone else, who also is important?

People have started to assume that mobile phones have become a part of human anatomy, and when someone calls you – you ‘SHOULD’ pick up. Recently two of my friends got offended when I didn’t pick up their calls. And I found it a bit childish on their part. Why should I pick up all the calls I get? And why is there a necessity for me to pick up all the calls?

I read a beautiful sentence in the book ‘The Monk Who Sold His Ferrarri’, which says ‘Phone are for your convenience and NOT for others convenience! And I strongly agree to it.

I had already blogged about how literate people behave like ignorant assholes in cinema halls by flashing their lights on the neighbours face and how least bothered they are about doing so. People even cross the roads with one hand in the pocket and other hand on their mobile phone stuck to their ears. They could be adept at multitasking but they are completely unaware about how disturbing it could be for others. And using your phone while driving could be the most dangerous - none is bothered about your life, you can die the way you want – but none should die because of YOUR lack of intelligence.

I personally don’t use mobile phones -
“WHEN I AM – “
· eating
· shitting
· driving
· with my family
· playing with my kids
· in serious discussion with MYSELF
· meditating
· praying
· watching movies in the theatre
· with another client
· eating out with my family
· feeling tired
· in a temple or any other religious place and
· not in a mood to talk

There is no room for people to get offended if someone doesn’t pick up a call - it is your mobile, and it is completely your prerogative whether to take a call or not. And world has been functioning for millions of years without mobile phones, and it will continue to function so – whether you take a call or not doesn’t really matter.
