Our trip to Delhi ? a cool one, literally!
We are back in Chennai after our successful business meet in Delhi just to be welcomed by unexpectedly heavy rains in the city - of course a good nimitta (luck) to be blessed with. The travel was untiring and the stay was good. I was visiting Delhi after 8 years, and I found that nothing has changed. The same pretty babes, the same chilly breeze, the awesome food, and the same cheerful people ? everything completely UNLIKE CHENNAI!
At the railway station there is a well-maintained pre-paid auto and taxi stand, you pay first and then use their services, rather wasting your energy and time bargaining. Of course, it is there, it was there, sometimes it is there and sometimes it isn?t ? the presence of pre-paid auto stand in Chennai depends on which political party is in power. And I am yet to confirm during whose reign it is functional ? the AIADMK or the DMK?
Delhiites have started using gas for most of their public transport vehicles, and the good news about them is ? they are zero polluting. The roads are cleaner, the traffic is literate, and none rips as if he is the only person to have blessed with an engine.
The interesting thing I noticed about Delhiites is that most of them are service oriented, and are damn comfortable in communicating with people. They don?t mind to speak using their broken English and funny accent, and if they find it a bit problematic they very easily fall back on Hindi for rescue. This is one thing Chennaites need to learn from the Northies - that is there is nothing wrong in conversing in regional language, and that it is in no way a matter of pride to use English to communicate ? because none cares about your vocabulary skills - it is all in the mind.
People?s behaviour to a very large extent depends on the climatic conditions they are subjected to. May be I found the Delhiites very cool, receptive, helping and fun loving because the temperature was just between 15-20 degrees and the winter had just started. It would be crazy on my part to expect the same kind of behaviour from Chennaites who get fried at 35 degrees Celsius - day in and day out - for all the 365 ? days!
