It happens only in India!
My sister had invited us for lunch on 10th June, and we (my wife, my daughter and me) were on our way on my bike. On the route we witnessed an accident. A bike had hit the back wheel of the tricycle that carried gas cylinders. The biker who had bad fall was limping to the sides of the road, and the cylinder guy was sitting on pavement rubbing his feet in real pain. From his expression it was clear that he indeed had a tremendous hit. I recognized him at once. I had met him some 2 years back.
Flashback - 2002
I had got too close with one of my friends (a girl) to an extent of having an extra marital affair. There was no hope, and I never wanted to break my marriage at any cost. And there was no point dragging a relationship, which had no future. Thankfully she got a new boy friend. At this juncture I never understood what should I be doing with my extra energy.
I learnt to swim, and also decided to join a Gym to build my body for a change. I started working out like crazy, and used to eat 8 eggs a day! I put on 10 kgs in 6 months, and I loved to look at myself in the mirror, which I usually don’t do.
I was pumping …I mean my triceps one evening, and a medium built person wearing a set of loose garments approached me. He started giving me gyaan about how it should be done exactly, and made me understand that I wasn’t doing it the right way. I am open for new ideas only when a person talking to me is intelligent that me. This guy indeed looked more knowledgeable. I had to take his advice, and it helped me too.
He went to the dressing room, and came back in his shorts. And what I could see…a terrific muscular body, each muscle protruding like the one’s I had seen only in some international posters! He demonstrated about how to work out, and taught me few important techniques too.
My time was up, and as usual I was having a chat with my gym owner (Ramesh) before I said a bye. Out of curiosity I asked Ramesh…has this person joined the gym recently? Ramesh was taken aback. He said no, he isn’t new. In fact he tried a lot to become a TC (ticket collector), but then he was asked to give 2 lakhs as bribe. He was from a poor family and he could not afford it. In fact he was Mr Madras in 1997 (winner of a body building competition). He asked me to guess his profession now. I had no clue…and he replied he delivers cylinders!
