My Mumbai Trip – A nostalgic disappointment!
I am back from Mumbai, this time with few good memories and few new realizations. I realized that human life is more or less like the Sixth Sense movie. We happen to concentrate on our career, wonder about our promotions, complaint about our nagging boss, laugh at the miniscule salary hikes, worry about the family and children’s life totally forgetting about another story that was running on the parallel track – we are ageing and each day we are getting closer to death.
Nothing has changed in Mumbai. The train timings are the same, the crowd remains the same, the directions are the same but for few new flyovers, the climate is the same – the only change I could find was that the people with whom I grew up have become old & worn out. Their hair has become gray, few have lost their hair, the eyes are sunk, and they have lost their charm. My neighBORES who used to run to catch the 8.15 ka fast local stay at home - thanks to the VRS scheme.
Many of my friends are getting into a new phase of their life, they are getting married this yearend.
Incidentally on the advice of one of my blog readers, I am midway through a book borrowed from my teacher. The book’s name is ‘Aghora’, which talks more about DEATH than anything else. The book is all about meditation. Meditation to be done sitting over the corpse in a smashan! The mouth of the corpse has to be filled with oil, and diya has to be lit. And if you are really interested, you need to sit over the corpse and chant the mantra given to you by your Aghora teacher. Many have soiled in their pants, and many have lost their lives out of cardiac arrest. Only few have reached or I should say succeeded in seeing the God in real flesh and blood!
I am 30, and I already feel am old. I am a bit afraid too - afraid about oldage and death. Of course, it is easy to say ‘enjoy till you are alive.’ But then you cannot go to a discotheque when you are 55 and above. All you have to do is lie there like a vegetable. Your grandchildren will care a damn if you say you had a company sponsored chauffer-driven car while young. Everything will lose its meaning - your education, your power, your knowledge and your relationships. And remember out of 100 crores only one can live a life like Amitabh Bacchan - who even at 62 has a nice time with the Bollywood heroines – of course on the silver screen.
You can ignore death, but Mahakala (the God of death) will never ignore you. He will visit when you least expect him - so be ready!
